7" Brooke Rifle ...These weapons were designed by the Confederacy as an answer to the Union Parrott guns, and saw service in all theaters of the Civil War. This particular gun was designed for naval service and mounted on a naval swivel type carriage. Later it was removed to a shore position on the James River to protect Richmond, Virginia. Gun ...These weapons initially saw service in the U.S.Navy and were a standard size for most navies of the world from the 17th Century on through the 19th Century. These guns were first designed and built early in the 1800's by the U.S. Government, and were later seized by the Confederate military at the start of the war. May of these weapons were used to build up and strengthen shore positions around the city of Charleston, S.C. and remain in place to this day.
