THE LIGHT FRIGATE ALFRED OF 1775 first flagship of the new Navy authorized by the Continental Congress. Rated as a 20-gun frigate, she was a converted merchant ship built in Philadelphia.  She took part in the successful 1776 invasion of New Providence in the Bahamas. Later under the command of John Paul Jones, she captured a number of British vessels around Nova Scotia & was the first ship to fly the Grand Union flag of the American colonies in European waters. Captured by British in March,1778 near Barbados, and sold, to an island merchant. Model based on a machine carved basswood hull, w/300+ brass & cast Britannia fittings, many photo etched brass & all additional wood, rigging cord & other materials required, except tools, glue/paint. BlueJacket kits are complete with detailed instructions, full sized plans, all wood, all metal fittings, all rigging materials, decals, flags, and anything else necessary to build the model. CHARLES P. NOTMAN . . . Blue Jacket's newest model,  known as #1, was the first major vessel built at the famed Percey & Small Shipyard (1894), Bath, Maine. She is of a type described as a four masted downeast schooner, 219.3' LOA. An exceptionally handsome model, this kit is our first major plank on laser cut bulkhead model in several years, 41" long. Our kit contains a great deal of etched brass, laser cut wood (labeled), detailed instructions and complete plans. A companion CD consisting of over a hundred construction JPEGS is also available. Designed by Dr. Al Ross, with technical input by Capt. Doug Lee, Schooner Heritage, Rockland, ME, her authenticity and attention to detail is assured. Scale is 1/8" = 1'. FANNIE A. GORHAM . . . Typical Maine cargo schooner Launched in 1881 in Belfast, ME (just 8 miles from BlueJacket’s home in Searsport), the Gorham was built especially for the coastal trade, carrying lumber and other cargo from New England to southern ports. We have built a finished model of the Gorham for the grandson of her commanding captain when she was “lost at sea, with all hands.” FANNIE A. GORHAM is a good model for the intermediate builder and, with her off-center main mast, centerboard, and shallow draft, is an interesting subject for any modeler. Scale 1/8"=1’ (1:96), LOA 24 1/2"  $225.00

 

WE'RE HERE .. is an accurate model of a typical Gloucester fishing schooner.   Her name will be familiar to those who remember the 1937 movie, "Captains Courageous" starring Spencer Tracy. Excellent for the beginning wooden ship modeler. Kit includes plans & instructions, pre-carved basswood hull, many brass and finely-cast Britannia metal fitting, wood stock and rigging. Scale 1/8"=1', Length 23", Height 18". #1009 $185. SPRAY ... in 1895 it took Captain Joshua Slcocum 3 years to sail around the world alone in his 100 year old, rebuilt oyster smack, Spray. Kit includes plans, instructions, rigging line, sailcloth, finely-cast Britannia pewter fittings with all necessary wood for planking, deckhouses and spars. Many laser cut parts. This kit recommended for models comfortable with plank-on-frame construction. Scale 3/8"=1'.Length 25", Height 19". #LW201 $125. NEW BEDFORD WHALE BOAT builders developed a nearly perfect design for a light, seaworthy boat to be used in the dangerous business of whaling. After the whaleship Essex sank, some of her crew survived for 3 months, traveling thousands of miles in whale boats, Melville's "Moby Dick" provides one of the best description of these vessels.
