USS Oregon . . .
A 11,688-ton Indiana class battleship built at San Francisco, California.
Commissioned in July 1896, at that time she was the only battleship serving
on the U.S. Pacific seaboard. As the Spanish-American War approached, she
was ordered to steam around South America to strengthen the forces available
in the Atlantic. Upon arrival, Oregon served off Cuba, and had an important
role in the Battle of Santiago on July 3rd.. She was the first battleship to
dock at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton April 11, 1897. She guarded
the Pacific Coast during World War I, and was decommissioned in 1919.
Suitable for ages 10 and older. Corsair II J.P.Morgan's Yacht . . . J. Pierpont Morgan was the head of the International Mercantile Marine Co., that had in its large Atlantic shipping fleet, the White Star Line and, of course, Titanic. J.P. Morgan was an internationally famous financier and his yacht, Corsair (II) was built in 1890 in Philadelphia. Expensive yachts were the corporate jets and status symbols of the late 19th century. Corsair (II) was outstanding; she was the second of four to be christened Corsair. The overall length of this beautiful yacht was 218 feet. She was 204 feet in length at the waterline, the remaining 14 feet of her length was molded into her graceful clipper bow and over-hanging counter stern. She had a beam of 27.2 ft and a draft of 13 ft; her speed was 13 knots.FEATURES: Two black molded hull halves, all other parts are white. Dozens of detailed parts including an attractive display stand, deck, lifeboats, davits, cabin superstructure, masts, wheel and binnacle, flag decals, etc. all the necessary parts, wonderfully reproduced with meticulous detail of the hand craftsmanship of the era.
