The Royal
Boat of Cheops (Khufu) The original
boat was found in 1954 on the Southern side of the Cheops pyramid in two pits covered with 41 limestone blocks.
Archeologists found the remains of a large Royal Boat or
Sun Bark of the Pharaoh Cheops in one of the airtight, waterproof pits. It consisted of 1,224 parts preserved over
4600 years! It was built without nails of
23M long Cedar planks from Lebanon. She had a flat bottom without a
keel, was 43.3M long by 5.9M wide. Six pairs of rudders kept
her on course as she was towed by smaller boats to the burial site.

Merchant Ships From The Golden Age Of The
Roman Empire . . . controlled
the Mediterranean Sea during this period with the largest war fleet until
the 18th century. These ships carried goods for the
growing capital, Rome. Some held up to 1,200 tons and
dropped anchor in Africa, Asia Minor and ports in the
western sea. These ships returned to Rome with
oils, silk, wheat, spices, French wines and imported chiseled stone
from Greece. An average ship could hold up to 10,000 amphorae.
The ships were equipped with two masts, with rectangular lined
sails. Hulls were made of pine, cypress or cedar with ribs of oak.

"Greek Bireme Warship" Paper Model Kit

A Bireme is a warship from antiquity and considered to be one of the
first longboats used for sea journeys. The oars were arranged in two rows
on both sides of the ship. A rammer was fixed on the bow of the ship to increase speed for ramming blows. These ships were built
long and high to protect the rowers and were
30-35 meters long holding up to 50 rowers each side. This
building style was widespread during the whole of antiquity, for
Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans and were built into the
middle ages. The oldest Bireme discovered dates from the 7th

Fishing-boat from the Sea of Galilee
Early 1986 the remains of an ancient boat were discovered in the Sea of Galilee,
said to be from the time of Jesus. It became known as the "Jesus
Boat". The age could be determined because wooden nails with rounded heads
were used in building boats from 2nd C
B.C. to Roman Times (about 70 AD). She was 8.2-8.5M long,
2.3-2.5M beam and 1.2-1.3M in height. She had a broad stern, narrow bow,
middle part flat and wide. She held up to 16 persons and a
300M long fishing net. At the excavation site, needles and stone anchors
were found. Length 9.9", Width 2.8", Height 8.7".
